The Coca-Cola Company distributes the American brand of ultra-filtered milk known as Fairlife, stylized as FAIRLIFE MILK, in the United States, Canada, and China. Milk is offered in five flavours in the US: full milk, reduced fat, chocolate, strawberry, and fat-free.
The Coca-Cola Company is the sole owner of Fairlife LLC. The Coca-Cola Company bought the remaining 57.5% equity position in Fairlife LLC in January 2020 after initially owning 42.5% of the company. Unlike Coca-Cola, which has its primary offices in Atlanta, Georgia, Fairlife has its headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.

FAIR LIFE MILK

FILTERATION PROCESS

In the Coopersville, Michigan, facility of Fairlife, Anders Porter remarked, “we separate the cream, filter, heat treat, homogenise, test, and bottle the milk.” Sue McCloskey, who along with her husband Mike McCloskey devised the method used to produce Fairlife, claims that the ultrafiltration procedure increases the amount of protein and calcium while removing lactose and most of the sugar. Fairlife is advertised as milk with ultrafiltration.

HOW MUCH CONTENT OF MILK PROTEIN ?

Compared to regular milk, Fairlife milk has more protein and less sugar. There are 170 calories, 26 grammes of protein, and 5 grammes of sugar in a 14 oz. Fairlife Core Power Vanilla Protein Shake. It appears to be a good source of dietary protein from a nutritional standpoint. “Fairlife Milk: The Ultimate Nutritional Powerhouse”

IS FAIRLIFE MILK HEALTHY ?

Contrary to all of the non-dairy milk substitutes previously mentioned, Fairlife is actual cow’s milk (source: Men’s Health). Its special filtration procedure separates the milk’s basic components, including fat, water, minerals, protein, and lactose (milk sugar), before recombining them to create an ultra-filtered milk with a very different nutritional profile from the original product. And this is what fascinates Men’s Health nutrition expert Mike Roussell, who simply states, “It takes milk and makes it better.”

CONTROVERSY OF FAIRLIFE MILK

Animal Recovery Mission (ARM), a group dedicated to animal welfare, published a video of an undercover dairy investigation at Fair Oaks Farms in Fair Oaks, Indiana, on June 4, 2019. During the inquiry, farm workers were seen kicking, punching, pushing, throwing, and slamming calves. Calves were also kneed in the spine, burned in the face with hot branding irons, and smacked in the mouth and face with hard plastic milking bottles.

The calves experienced excruciating agony and suffering as a result, and in some cases, fatal injuries or even lifelong damage. Despite the corporation’s claims that it does not send its male calves to veal farms (Midwest Veal and Calf Start), ARM revealed that male calves from Fair Oaks Farms are in fact shipped there. The ARM investigator also recorded video of drug use.

A few months prior to the broadcast of the film, the four Fair Oaks Farms employees, including the ARM employee, were dismissed, and at least three merchants, including Jewel-Osco, said they would withdraw all Fairlife products from their shelves.
